The Serbian-American Center (SAC) was founded in Belgrade in August 2002 in response to the recognition that the development of the U.S.–Serbian relations are of the utmost importance for the country. As an independent, privately endowed foundation, SAC aims to develop and further Serbian-American relations and, in the process, closely cooperates with both governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations. One of its main tasks is to initiate and support research in the areas of science, culture, education, the media, economics, and politics, both in Serbia and Montenegro and the United States. SAC also works to enlarge the number of participants and to act as an intermediary in wider Serbian-American interactions. SAC firmly believes that relations and cooperation between the two peoples and states should be based on mutual long-term interests and a friendly and frank exchange of ideas.
